Okay, I'm not so sure now, it seems they do have an animatable face rig. Diffuse, spec and normal maps, shape keys.
I take it you have seen this?

I was going to ask about that, because I read about this a few days ago and the other animation they have on their website isn't nearly as impressive; though it is still not bad.

Almost all animation is CG now. Simpsons, South Park, and most anime is done with computers.

And "Emily", only her face is CG and it's really just a complicated motion capture process, so it's not nearly as impressive as it seems.
